What is your dream vacation destination?
New Zealand remains at the top of my list for its breathtaking natural beauty. My wife and I love traveling to new places. Setting time away from my usual go-go allows my brain to rest and take in my beautiful surroundings.
What is the best thing you have read this year?
“Live Life in Crescendo: Your Most Important Work Is Always Ahead of You” by Stephen R. Covey and Cynthia Covey Haller.
What I appreciated about the book is the mindset it promotes—that regardless of age, your best work is always ahead of you. With this perspective, you remain engaged in learning, inventing, creating, and serving others. You continue to contribute for as long as God allows.
What experience in your life has prepared you to work at MasterThink?
From a young age, my father instilled in me the value of work. I worked on construction sites alongside the crew my father led. As an entrepreneur, I found ways to earn money through ventures like breeding rabbits and chickens, selling produce from our large garden, and running a lawn mowing business during summers and after school.
In my senior year of high school, I was part of the Distributive Education Club of America (DECA), which prepared students for careers in business and entrepreneurship. This experience fueled my desire to own a business someday.
I worked full-time while in college and earned a degree in accounting. Post-graduation, I worked with Holiday Inns for roughly ten years, initially in SEC reporting and later as the Director of Hotel Group Planning.
In 1983, I began my consulting career in Dallas, Texas, by partnering with a group of individuals. Though our partnership lasted only three years, it was instrumental in shaping my future endeavors.
Since then, MasterThink has evolved, serving clients across various sectors. My passion for constant learning has never waned. I actively engage in reading and listening to topics ranging from consulting to self-development. My diverse client base over the past forty years has offered a wealth of perspectives, invaluable in addressing their unique challenges.
What’s the best thing about working at MasterThink?
I have a knack for assisting CEOs and their leadership teams in articulating a clear vision for their companies and then mapping out a path to realize that vision. I thrive on coaching leaders and their teams, enhancing their skills to steer their growing organizations. Witnessing the “aha” moments when individuals gain confidence and evolve into more effective leaders or employees is profoundly rewarding.
What do you do to relax?
In my spare time, I love bicycling, which allows me to be outdoors and clear my mind. It’s a time when all I have to think about is the road ahead and which way I want to turn.
What is important to me?
Life’s fleeting nature has been underscored by personal experiences. I’m blessed with three children, seven grandchildren, and a supportive extended family. At my core, I have a genuine desire to serve and empower others, helping them reach their fullest potential.
